SUMMER SOUNDS: LIVERPOOL’S HOTTEST MUSIC EVENTS THIS AUGUST
Are you ready for the summer vibes?
Liverpool has been a whole vibe this summer, but are you ready for what’s on offer this August? Our favourite multicultural melting pot promises to bring the HEAT with music events this summer, so put on your sunglasses (and maybe grab your raincoat) because it’s time to go outside y’all!
August starts off strong with events across St George Hall, 24 Kitchen Street and Grand Central Hall in Liverpool. Friday 2 August welcomes the legendary dancehall star, Gyptian, showcasing his Dancehall and Reggae classics at Grand Central Hall. Fre.Que.Ncy, hosted later on that night at 24 Kitchen Street will have you vibing for the rest of the evening, bringing you Neo Soul tunes from Kaytranada, Yussef Dayes and more.
The iconic St George’s Hall turns 170 years old this year and promises to host a huge line up of summer events! The Jacaranda’s Rock N Roll Circus storms this iconic venue on Thursday 1 August for a night of music from the 1960s rock and roll music scene. If you’re looking to explore the creativity Liverpool has to offer, don’t forget to check out ‘The Narrative’ on Tuesday 6th August for their August Showcase featuring talented local creatives such as Zuzu, KOF and MT Jones. Also part of the celebration, The Wombat Jazz Festival, the first of its kind in Liverpool, brings together a selection of the best jazz in Liverpool and will debut on Sunday 1 September. St George’s hall is a beautiful Grade I listed building in the heart of Liverpool, so make sure you check it out! Go on… It is their birthday after all!
Across the pond in Wirral on Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 August at Future yard, Newen Afrobeat presents a fusion of African traditions and Chilean heritage, for a night of live music with important messages of social liberty. Music is powerful and liberating, so, make sure you join in at the Summer Rum and Reggae Festival Saturday 17 August at Camp and Furnace, Liverpool. Sun is shining, the weather is sweet.
Camp and Furnace in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle area also brings The Downtown Nashville Show, the UKs Number 1 Country Music Party on Saturday 10 August. So, dust off your cowboy boots, and get ready to stomp your feet because you’re in for a real treat with music from Dolly Parton to Garth Brooks. We’ll see you downtown. If you’re from the LGBTQ+ community, Switch presents their Summer Day Party on Saturday 10 August which is proudly curated for queer women, trans, and non-binary people. You can expect a mixture of queer anthems and club classics, and it promises to be THE place to be outside of the mainstream clubbing scene, held at District, also in the Baltic Triangle area.
August bank holiday weekend is going to be one you won’t forget. You may have already heard about the legendary Mathew Street Festival that’s returning to Liverpool in a brand new location this year, Pier Head after a 10 year hiatus from Friday 23 August – Monday 26 August. Liverpool is just spoiling you now… Sorry not sorry.
The fun doesn’t stop there. On Friday 23 August at Metrocola, a stones throw away from Liverpool’s “Bombed Out Church”, you’ll find Afrosentrik which brings music genres including Afrobeats, Amapiano, Ndombolo, Afro House and so much more to Liverpool! Their resident DJ’s Soulfultiz and Lancy Pioneer will be joined by DJ NS, who promises to get your hips moving again to the beat of the Congolese sounds. And if a day to night rave sounds more up your street, don’t forget to check out the SHOW ME LUV Summer Special at the Invisible Wind Factory Sunday 25 August where you can expect Club Classics, Deep House, and Tech House sounds for 12 hours of bangers.
The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, or “The Phil” brings performances from musicians both local and from around the world. On Wednesday 28 August in the Music Room, sees Julian Taylor, a Toronto based singer-songwriter with music bringing an eclectic mix of rock, folk, pop and Americana. Make sure you also check out Le Vent Du Nord, a leading force in Quebec’s folk movement on Friday 2 August, and Pokey LaFarge from Illinois where you’ll have a chance to preview the Deep Soul sounds from his latest album on Tuesday 20 August.
Liverpool truly offers a piece of joy for everyone, and you’re all welcome to join in with the fun.
