What is Act 1.5 Presents…?
Act 1.5 is a collection of artists and scientists who are testing ways to try and make the live music industry more sustainable. They want to help the industry decarbonise in line with the limits set at COP 26 in Paris of 1.5 degrees.
Act 1.5 Presents… is a series of three shows which aim to trial new and innovative ways to decarbonise the live music industry.
By buying a ticket to the show you’re entering into the experiment and helping everyone involved trial how successful these new approaches are.
There are loads of things we’ll be testing. From the way the production team build the stage, the food and drink we serve at the shows, and crucially the way the audience attending travel to the event.
This means that some things at the shows may be different from what you’re used to. But rest assured, you having a great night out is still the number one priority!
Why do I have to pay for public transport at the same time as my ticket?
Research has shown that the largest contributor of carbon emissions to a live music event is the audience travelling to get to the show. Up to 80% in some cases.
As the aim of these experimental shows is to try and reduce that as much as possible, we are trialling a new way of integrating your show ticket with a ticket for public transport.
I’m local, what transport can I use for my £4.80?
You can travel on any bus, train or ferry within the Merseytravel network. You can plan your journey here.
Closer to the show we will be sending all ticket holders more information on travel details and giving them advice on the best routes to travel.
Do I have to book a train if I am buying a ticket from outside Liverpool City Region?
Research has shown that the largest contributor of carbon emissions to a live music event is the audience travelling to get to the show. Up to 80% in some cases.
As the aim of these experimental shows is to try and reduce that as much as possible, we are trialling a number of ways linking together gig tickets with public transport.
We are working with partners at Avanti West Coast and Trans Pennine Express who will provide you with the best possible travel options to get to Liverpool from wherever you are travelling after you have purchased your ticket.
When will I get my tickets?
If you live in the Liverpool City Region, your gig and travel ticket will be sent to you via e-mail 7 – 10 days before the event.
If you live outside of the Liverpool City Region, you will receive your show e-ticket 7 – 10 days before the event.
Before then you will be sent details on the best ways to travel to the show.
How do I know if I live in the Liverpool City Region?
Liverpool City Region (or LCR) is made up of Liverpool, Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton, Wirral and the unitary authority of Halton in Cheshire. If you live in any of these areas then you qualify for the pre-sale tickets.
Why can only people in the Liverpool City Region buy tickets first?
The shorter the distance that people travel to the show, the less carbon they produce.
To give local audiences the best chance of getting tickets for these shows, we have set a local presale for 48 hours.
From midday on Friday 27 September, fans can buy tickets nationally.
Where can I buy tickets from?
If you are in Liverpool City Region then you have exclusive access to a pre-sale where you can purchase your tickets from Ticket Quarter through www.mandsbankarena.com from midday on Wednesday 25 September.
If you live outside of the Liverpool City Region then you can purchase tickets from here from midday on Friday 27 September.
I have an electric car - can’t I drive that instead?
As this is an experiment in how we can decarbonise live music events, we need to create a consistent approach for how ticketing is managed. At this time, we are unable to make an exception for electric vehicles as it makes it hard for us to assess the wider impact.
Can I just pay for a gig ticket and drive instead?
No one can force you to take public transport. However, as you have already paid for it and as such are helping us in this wider experiment around decarbonising the live music industry, we hope that ticket buyers enter into the spirit of what the show is all about and choose to travel using public transport wherever they can.
Can I just buy a ticket without the transport included (a) if I want to or (b) if I live in the city centre?
If you live close enough to the venue to either walk or get to the gig using active transport – cycle, scooting etc – then you’ll be able to purchase a ticket for the show on its own. If you aren’t able to get to the show under your own steam then you will have to purchase your public transport at the same time.
When will the gigs end? What if I miss the last train?
In order to give people more time to make their trains home, all of the shows will end at 22.00.
By finishing the show a bit earlier than normal, anyone who isn’t staying over in the city should be able to get a standard-service home.
If they finish early what time will the gigs start?
The doors to the M&S Bank Arena are likely to be open from 17:30 for each show. The exact timings will be shared on the week of the shows.
I have access issues and need to travel by car. What should I do?
Please contact the Ticket Quarter Box Office on 0344 335 0437 and they will be able to help arrange your tickets and access.
What are you specifically doing to make these shows more sustainable?
We are testing a wide range of practices to make these shows as sustainable as possible as well as the integrated gig and public transport ticketing, we are planning:
- 100% Renewable Energy: All the electricity used for this event will be from 100% renewable sources.
- Zero Single-Use Plastics: We’ve ditched single-use plastics, opting for reusable or compostable alternatives.
- Zero Waste to Landfill: Our aim is to send absolutely nothing to landfill by recycling, composting, or finding other innovative solutions.
- Meat-Free Event: We’ve made the conscious decision that these will be meat-free events to reduce the carbon footprint of the food we serve.
- Local Sourcing: Our food suppliers are all based within 10 miles of the venue, supporting local businesses and reducing food miles.
- Local Drink: We strive to source alcoholic beverages from suppliers within a 10-mile radius of the venue.
- Public Transport: The ticket supplement including public transport will help to reduce the number of vehicles on the road.
Will there be any VIP options available?
Yes. All available VIP options for sale can be seen on the individual event pages on: www.mandsbankarena.com.
