LEWIS CAPALDI TAKES OVER THE PARK
A couple of years ago the good folk at Cream brought us a series of memorable nights under their In The Park banner. The highlight for me was the magical night when Jamie Webster performed his biggest hometown show ever. I don’t think it is a night Jamie or anyone in that audience will ever forget.
The gorgeous surroundings of Sefton Park somehow makes live music even more special and after a fallow year In The Park is back with a huge show by one of Scotland’s favourite musical sons Lewis Capaldi. It is his biggest show in the city and his first show here since his widely publicised decision in2023 to take a break from performing to focus on his own physical and mental health. His brave decision to be so open and honest about this and his diagnosis of Tourette’s won him even more admirers. This decision came after his performance to a huge audience at Glastonbury when he emotionally acknowledged that his Tourette’s was causing him problems and the crowd supported him by singing the vocals when he couldn’t.
True to his word he stayed out of the public eye for two years until he made a surprise appearance at Glastonbury in 2025, reminding everyone why he is one of the biggest musical draws in UK music with hit after hit including Someone You Loved, one of the biggest singles of the last decade.
Capaldi’s comeback was completed with a sold out arena tour and another massive single in Survive. Incidentally I also think Capaldi is hilarious and I am sure his in between song banter will be entertaining too.
On the night he is supported by Loyle Carner, and I don’t think this is because Lewis Capaldi insists he can only be supported by artists with the same initials as him (although I am sure Lloyd Cole would be glad of the gig if it was offered). Carner is a great live performer and a major star in his own right with over a billion streams to his name.
I cant think of anything nicer than watching some great live music on a warm night in Sefton Park so get yourself down there and help make it another special In the Park moment.
