OUT AND ABOUT – MAY 2024
We’re back with another round-up from some of Liverpool Finest local photographers.
We are out and about in Liverpool with Lens of a Wool (Jenn), Ka.dot (Kate Davies) and Benjofbagend (Ben Orrell-Jones). Let’s check out what musical happenings they’ve captured recently.
Ben Orrell-Jones is a 31-year-old Liverpool-based photographer and videographer specialising in documentary style and environmental portraiture. His career began while volunteering for Liverpool Live TV, filming local events and music sessions, which led to a role with the Baltic Triangle area website.
Known for his authentic documentary approach, Ben captures behind-the-scenes moments that reveal the true essence of his subjects, from musicians to tattoo artists. Inspired by Detroit photographer Vuhandes and London-based Isha Shah, Ben’s work often features pre-show, studio, and lifestyle images. Having photographed artists such as Copdat and Tremz, Ben hopes his unique perspective on Liverpool’s music scene allows fans to see their favourite artists in a new light.
Lens Of A Wool (Jenn) is a 24 year old music photographer and videographer working in and around Liverpool for the past 5 years on a variety of projects and shoots – gigs, promo, music videos, and live sessions. Jenn started off shooting in The Zanzibar Club back in 2019 for Sumati (Jana Luxx), and fell in love with the job from there. The Zanzibar offered a safe space to explore different creative avenues and shooting methods; they gave me the room to grow in both influence and confidence as a photographer, and become the wool with a lens (albeit with a couple more lenses since those days) that I am today.
“I really don’t like it when my photos look unedited, I like being loud and brash with the colours and grain; it’s all about the vibe and the energy. My style is pretty film-look, grainy, and quite punky. It’s stylistic and creative, while retaining the artist’s own style and personality.”

During her early teenage years, Kate found herself naturally gravitating towards photography and a desire to capture her day-to-day life and experiences. Starting with a humble 35mm film camera, she gradually developed her practice, documenting life more consistently and figuring out that photography was what she wanted to do.
Kate’s approach to photography mirrors her personality – a mixture of planning something and being spontaneous, drawing inspiration from various sources, not pigeonholing herself into a specific genre and nurturing collaboration. A memorable highlight was shooting two covers for Bido Lito!, a local magazine she grew up admiring.
Kate prefers photographing in locations meaningful to her subjects, aiming to tell their unique stories. She hopes her work empowers young women and contributes to Liverpool’s vibrant music culture by creating inspiring and engaging imagery.
