OUT AND ABOUT – NOVEMBER 2023
Out and About: a visual diary of what’s happening in Liverpool. Each month, four of Liverpool’s finest photographers share photos of what they’ve been up to over the past four weeks, from live gigs and art exhibitions to panels and more.
In November, we caught up with Maia Walker, Daniel de la Bastide, Basia Krasowska and Jay Chow.
Freelance photographer Maia Walker is a self-taught artist originally from London, now based in Liverpool. Maia has been photographing music for over 4 years, inspired mostly by fine art portraiture.
“These photos have been taken over the past year across a range of venues throughout Liverpool including the Kazimier Garden, The Jacaranda and Mountford Hall. I’ve worked in a range of cities including London, Manchester and New York. I’ve found capturing intimate shows and watching the crowd is my favourite part because I can capture so many beautiful, raw, intimate moments, especially in Liverpool. Observing the audience allows you to feel present as they encapsulate the feeling of the room. Plus, Scouse fans love to show their appreciation for music.”
Heavily involved within Liverpool’s music scene, Daniel has been documenting nightlife since 2017 and developed his practice quickly over the years as an artist. Within music & event photography, they’ve developed a bold, colourful style that looks to reflect personalised experiences – creating imagery that odes to the playful escapism that these spaces offer for a diverse range of communities. Alongside this, documenting these artists and creatives with intimate portraiture with freshly developed film from his home.
Currently, Daniel is working towards a self-funded, debut solo exhibition around Liverpool’s Nightlife Music Culture, through his perspective and personal experiences during the period of 2017 through to 2023. It’s a body of work which looks at ideas about intoxication, adolescence, memories and how we represent these through media. It’ll features an archive of Daniel’s work, in addition to various art pieces that have been created for this exhibition.

Fashion, editorial and lifestyle photographer Basia is influenced by her surroundings, nature and art. From a young age Basia was drawn to visual arts, inspired by movies, art and pop culture. Embarking on her photography journey in her early twenties, Basia developed a style influenced by the atmospheric quality of film photography. She shares with us some beautiful portraiture of her favourite music artists based across the North West.

Inspired by the dystopian realms of Blade Runner, Jay Chow uses photography as a form of art that transcends boundaries. With the street as his sanctuary, Jay roams his surroundings capturing moments, completely lost yet utterly content.
These photos capture the streets and people of Liverpool in real time.
