Africa Oyé festival

AFRICA OYÉ IS BACK!

In 2027, the Liverpool institution – and the UK’s largest celebration of African music and Culture – will celebrate 35 years!

Beginning in 1992 as a series of small gigs in Liverpool’s city centre, Africa Oyé has gone from strength to strength, moving to its present Sefton Park home in 2002 to cope with demand. In 2026, the much loved event transitioned from a historically free event to a ticketed festival with over 25,000 people in attendance.  ( Read more here )

Sefton Park was a picture of joy and togetherness, with a vibrant and family-friendly atmosphere, bringing a renewed vigour for live music and an unmatched energy from the Oyé community.

“Returning with a bang in 2026… it’s such a lively festival, very multicultural, intergenerational, and loads of families around, activities for the kids, loads of great food on offer, and just a really warm and welcoming atmosphere.” Music Planet, BBC Radio 3.

The festival’s star-studded lineup of international talent in 2026 included Nigerian Afrobeats hero Patoranking, Mailian chanteuse Fatoumata Diawara, and British reggae icon Janet Kay, as well as performances from emerging Liverpool talent, with rising star KOJ making his Oyé debut on the festival’s main stage.

In 2027, audiences can expect an even more eclectic mix of music and culture from across Africa and the Diaspora, with live music from international artists to emerging local talent, a host of community performances and the return of Oyé’s DJ stage, and an action packed programme of family friendly workshops and activities in the Oyé Family Zone, in association with world dance specialists Movema. And not forgetting the ‘Oyé Village’ – with world cuisine, arts, crafts and so much more.

Paul Duhaney, Artistic Director at Africa Oyé said: “We didn’t know what to expect this year making the transition from a free event to a ticketed one and it was truly emotional to see so many people come along for the ride with us on this new journey. We’ve kept the ticket prices as affordable as possible for next year and can’t wait to do it all over again in summer 2027 as we celebrate 35 years of Oyé.”

Earlybird tickets are now on sale, with reduced priced for residents of the Liverpool City Region.

The Africa Oyé Festival will take place in Sefton Park, Liverpool on 19th and 20th June 2027.
