RADIO 1’S BIG WEEKEND SPOTLIGHT – TONIA

Tonia’s sound sits in that sweet spot between vulnerability and strength – heartfelt alternative pop that draws you in through melody, emotion and sharp, honest lyrics.

Born in Nottingham and now based in Liverpool, she’s shaped her artistry in this city: her first gig, her bandmates, her first radio play – all of it happened here. And now she’s back on home ground, performing on the BBC Introducing stage this Friday at Big Weekend.

For Tonia, songwriting is a way of figuring things out. “Sometimes I don’t know how I feel until I write about it,” she says. Her lyrics are deeply personal, but always leave space for listeners to find their own meaning – the kind of songs that become soundtracks to your own quiet moments.

This Big Weekend slot isn’t just another festival show – it’s a milestone in the city that helped her find her voice.
