‘LET’S GO!’: STEALING SHEEP’S HIGH-ENERGY ANTHEM FOR A NEW ERA
After a decade of pushing sonic boundaries, Stealing Sheep are back—louder, bolder, and fully in control.
Their latest single, ‘Let’s Go!’, is a euphoric blast of hyperpop chaos and happy hardcore energy, marking the start of a new chapter. Frustrated by industry gatekeeping, the trio have launched their own label, G-irl, to take matters into their own hands.
With more music on the way, they sat down with Liverpool Music City to talk independence, creative freedom, and breaking all the rules.
‘Let’s Go!’ feels like a real sonic adrenaline rush—punchy, high-energy, and unapologetically bold. It’s a chaotic fusion of hyperpop and happy hardcore. Was that euphoric energy intentional, or did it naturally emerge in the studio?
We had a genuine feeling of wanting to burst. This first drop is a taster of what’s coming….All our energy for being creative and the excitement for making an album is triggered in this song – it’s a paradoxical nightmare starting an album frantic eagerness combined with feeling overwhelmed leading to procrastination and all the emotions that go with stepping into the unknown, taking risks, making each other giggle (or cringe!) the general feels came together in about 2 minutes on a logic demo and then we phattened it up and added Louisa (she drew the gun) into the mix in some studio sessions at Nans House with the spirit guidance of our producer Joe Wills.
This track marks a new chapter for Stealing Sheep, launching your own label, G-irl. What led to the decision to take full creative control, and how has the experience been so far?
We’ve sat on the album now for over a year…waiting for someone to have the enthusiasm to take it on and we’ve become so tired and exhausted by waiting around for someone else to take the reins that we can’t wait any longer. It’s one of those when one door closes moments because already we’re seeing the ‘behind the scenes’ within the distribution set ups and pitching for playlists ourselves etc – it’s really empowering and feels flowy and natural to be completely in charge of this. For us the marketing has always been an extension of the art and now we can give that our full attention to make it truly our voice and direct to our fans
Stealing Sheep has always blurred genre boundaries, but ‘Let’s Go!’ takes it up another level—there’s nostalgia, futurism, and a kind of joyful chaos all at once. What were some of the key influences, musical or otherwise, behind this sound?
It’s kind of influenced by everything and nothing at the same time – it sounds similar to things but also not. I think SMile by Lily allen / The Streets / sugar babes and our general young free teen nostalgia has come into play in this tune…it’s also pure fruit loops and early cubase sonics that lean it into the PC music direction – the donk is basically a syncopated casio keyboard autobass vibe that had a real bang face irony to it – it also feels a bit similar to our friends DOGSHOW (who i basically danced to for the past 15 years)
The opening lyric—“I’ll wait forever”—feels like a pointed statement. Is this song a response to the industry’s barriers, and does it reflect a wider shift in how artists are navigating their careers?
Absolutely – the gatekeepers that provide so much in terms of security, experience, contacts, money and advice can elevate your art and help you connect deeper to fans – so it’s a dangled carrot of promise but if nothing shows up then you can’t wait around for ever? It’s time to take matters into your own hands and stop waiting for someone else to bring your dream to life.
There’s an undeniable sense of movement in the track—it feels like the perfect soundtrack to an overstimulated world. Was that energy something you consciously wanted to capture?
Yeah the message of the lyrics demanded that kind of frustrated, driven and passionate energy so everything needed to be dialed up / speed up and given a bit of an ecstasy effect in order to hammer the whole vibe home… starting how we mean to go on
You’ve been making music together for over a decade. How has your creative process evolved, and how does this new era of independence shape your approach to songwriting and production?
We’ve changed shape a million times, what suits us best is evolving on stage and constantly trying ideas out as we go. The label gives us the fluidity that we’ve always been missing…we aren’t just saying it for effect but we instinctively hate rules and want to do almost everything differently to the standard formulas that have previously been set, so we’ve always been held back and fucked over by the industry ways of doing things- now we’re liberated and we can do what ever we choose it’s driving our creative outlook and changing the way we approach everything
Liverpool has always been a strong part of Stealing Sheep’s identity. Has the city influenced this new phase of your sound in any way?
We’ve recently become more fixated on the idea that music needs to be back in the real world and connecting to people in a more interactive way. Online is cool, and yeah the phone is like a new form of stage, all eyes are looking. BUT! It’s super important to us that we give the gen z crew a flashback taster of what got us into music in the first place and that was witnessing real immersive gigs that were like wild parties and ‘happenings’ with unexpected twists. This was invigorating and totally mind blowing when we were younger on the Liverpool music scene. We want to bring this energy back. So that’s where the concept of Girl IN Real Life really steps in.
What’s next for Stealing Sheep? Can we expect more self-releases, live shows, or surprises from G-irl in the near future?
We want to release loads of new music- our own, our side hustles…demos…remixes and our favourite local g-irls.
