JOHAHN “MR GREEN” MOORE
Johahn “Mr Green” Moore is a Liverpool-based Marketing and Event Manager. Having worked in the city’s nightlife and entertainment sector for over 16 years, he has been responsible for bringing some of the biggest Black music acts to clubland in Liverpool since the mid 2000s.
Johahn was recently appointed as the Events and Social Media Manager for Boxpark Liverpool. It may be the company’s sixth site, but it’s also their FIRST Boxpark-branded location outside of London! We caught up with Johahn to find out more about him, his work and Boxpark.
Tell us how you got into promoting events and the music generally?
I’ve always had a deep love for the music industry, starting out in A&R and even running my own production company. We were lucky enough to get our music videos aired on MTV BASE and CHANNEL U, which was a big deal for us back then. But my journey into events promotion was quite unexpected. It all started with those annoying folks you meet outside clubs, trying to lure you in with shots and promises of a good time. From there, I hustled my way up to become the Marketing Director.
You have booked many artists and DJs for numerous venues. What do you think your events are known for?
When it comes to the events I book, I’ve always had a passion for championing UK Black music artists. So even though Liverpool is often known for its House music scene, I have always wanted to bring more diversity to the city’s nightlife. I think that’s what I’m known for.
If you had to pick your favourite show that you have booked, what would it be and why?
Picking a favourite event or show I’ve booked is tough, but I’ll give you two standout moments. One was when we had JHUS perform at Projekt. Despite the low ceiling (seriously, it was only 9ft!), he still managed to pull off an epic crowd surf. The energy in that club was electric. And then there was TOPBOI at Liberte rooftop, right after lockdown. It felt like a collective sigh of relief as people embraced the freedom to party again.
What do you think the general vibe in Liverpool is like right now for events?
It’s all about adaptation; the club scene might be slowing down but the appetite for events is stronger than ever. People want unique experiences, whether it’s a day-drinking session or a themed quiz night. That’s where Boxpark comes in.
On that note, tell us about Boxpark Liverpool – what it is, what it will bring to the music and cultural scene here, and what’s coming up?
Boxpark Liverpool is more than just a venue; it’s a cultural hub. We’re bringing a taste of London to Liverpool while staying true to this city’s identity. Whether you’re grabbing a bite with the family, catching up on work during the day, or dancing the night away with your mates, there’s something for everyone.
Looking ahead, expect a diverse program at Boxpark Liverpool. From quirky quizzes to singles events to post-work pop parties, we’ve got it all covered. And of course, there’s always something happening for the football fans too. Just check out our website for all the latest updates!
